Program Overview
- Duration: July 14 – August 16, 2026
- Location:
- Yokohama YMCA
- Fujisan YMCA Global Eco Village (Fujinomiya, Shizuoka, Japan) or Miura YMCA Global Eco Village (Miura, Kanagawa, Japan)
- Responsibilities:
- Support children’s summer camps
- Assist with cleaning rooms
- Help distribute meals

- Accommodation & meals provided by Yokohama YMCA
- Meals not provided on holidays and free travel days
Who Can Apply?
- Age: 18–35 years old
- Language: English proficiency required (Japanese preferred)
- Visa: Must obtain a valid visa before arrival in Japan
Schedule
- July 14 : Orientation, and international program in Yokohama
- July 15 – August 16: Volunteering at Fujisan YMCA or Miura YMCA
- August 16 onwards: Free travel time

1. Visa-related Questions
- Which visa should I obtain? You can participate for up to 90 days with a short-term stay visa.
- Do you provide visa support? Yokohama YMCA provides necessary information for visa applications, but the application itself must be done by the participant.
2. Cost-related Questions
- Is there a participation fee?
There is no participation fee for the volunteer program. - Do I need to cover my airfare?
Yes, airfare must be covered by the participant. There is no financial support for airfare from Yokohama YMCA. - Is insurance included? Do I need to arrange it myself?
No, you must purchase travel insurance before entering Japan. - Do I need to cover accommodation and meals during free travel periods and days off?
Yes, accommodation and meals during your free travel period must be covered by yourself.
For days off during the volunteer program, you can stay at Fujisan YMCA Global Eco Village or Miura YMCA Global Eco Village.
3. Living Environment
- What kind of accommodation is provided? Are there private rooms?
You will stay in shared rooms with 2-3 other volunteers. - Is there Wi-Fi?
Yes, Wi-Fi is available.
4. Work & Schedule
- How many days off do I have?
You will have two days off per week, but the schedule may vary depending on the program.On your days off, you are free to go out; however, you must return on the same day.

Is it okay if I don’t speak Japanese when interacting with children?
It is not a problem, but being open to communicating in Japanese is encouraged to build stronger relationships. -
How often do volunteers help with cleaning and meal serving?
Meal serving is required for every meal. Cleaning tasks will be instructed by the local staff. - Can you give an example of the daily schedule?
The daily schedule varies depending on the program and days, but a typical day may look like this:- 7:00 Wake up
- 7:30 Breakfast / Meal serving support
- 9:00 Morning meeting & program preparation
- 10:00 Activities with children / program support
- 12:00 Lunch / Meal serving support
- 13:30 Afternoon activities / cleaning support
- 17:00 Reflection meeting / free time
- 18:00 Dinner / Meal serving support
- 19:30 Evening program or preparation for the next day
- 21:00 Free time / shower
- 22:00 Lights out
5. Transportation
- How do I get to Yokohama ,Fujisan YMCA Global Eco Village or Miura YMCA Global Eco Village?
Please use public transportation to reach Yokohama YMCA. Transportation is provided from Yokohama YMCA to Fujisan YMCA Global Eco Village or Miura YMCA Global Eco Village. - Where is the meeting point?
The meeting point is Yokohama YMCA.
6. After Participation
- Can I get a volunteer certificate?
Yes, we can issue a volunteer certificate. - How long can I stay in Japan after the free travel period?
It depends on your schedule and the visa you obtain. Please make arrangements accordingly.

- Should I study Japanese before coming?
To make the most of your stay, we recommend learning some basic Japanese. - Where do other participants come from?
You will be working with students from Taiwan.
